Campden Instruments originated on Camden Hill Road, Kensington, London, in 1970 when psychologist Dr. Carl Weiss founded the company, producing the most innovative operant behavior assessment equipment at the time, as well as other physiological instruments for which the company soon became famous.
In 1982, Campden began manufacturing the Vibroslice tissue slicer, which has since been used worldwide by neurologists, electrophysiologists, pathologists and embryologists to slice fresh tissue. One of the modern Campden 7000smz vibrotomes has a sub-micron Z-axis blade oscillation, which makes it easy to make surviving nerve tissue slices that are convenient to work with using the patch-clamp technique.
When Dr. Weiss retired in the late 1980s, Campden was acquired by PLC, a British firm that added engineering expertise. In 1991, Campden acquired the sole UK distribution agreement for Lafayette Instrument Co. of Lafayette, Ind. USA. And then, in October 1998, Campden was acquired by Lafayette Instrument Co. It was a welcome return to ownership of a life science company with a complementary product line and many common goals and directions. Today, Campden Instruments has offices in the United Kingdom and the United States.
To meet the needs of both the user and the specimen retention, instrument design at Campden Instruments covers many areas such as ergonomics, material selection and analysis, manufacturing technology, metrology, quality control and assurance, microprocessor circuits, development and programming. The design procedure ensures compliance with international directives and standards for product safety, electromagnetic compatibility (EMC), etc. Product prototypes are sent to some of the most demanding researchers for critical analysis. When developing new products (or upgrading existing products), it is important that the components selected have a long service life. Wherever possible, components are selected with the latest technology in mind. Components made to the firm's designs are supplied by companies accredited to internationally recognized quality standards.
You can buy Campden Instruments equipment in Baltic States (Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania) and Ukraine, Kazahstan from the local distributor Tregoland OU.
Campden Instruments is our partner. We offer their products with competitive prices. You may get a look over the next products:
Campden 7000 Campden 7000smz-2 is a top of the range high precision, vibrating microtome (vibrotome). This is the finest tissue slicer in the world for preparations for visual patch clamping or high resolution imaging. It is used in over 450 labs for 10 years! |
Campden 5100mz The new entry-level Campden 5100mz vibrotome is ideal for techniques such as: histology, organotype slice culture, low-resolution imaging. |
Campden 5100mz-Plus 5100-Plus is ideal to maintain slices viable for longer, such as for electrophysiological field recordings. The user can calibrate the Z-axis deflection of the blade to a tolerance of 2 Вµm. This leads to a less damage to the slice surface. |
McIlwain Tissue Chopper The McIlwain Tissue Chopper is designed to slice fresh and fixed tissue for use in metabolic experiments. Cutting in layers, cubes and prisms is possible. The maximum cutting thickness is 1 mm. |
