SAR-1000 - Advanced Ventilator System For Rodents

The SAR-1000 is an advanced ventilation system for rodents. It supports two modes of operation - with fixation of air volume for breathing or with fixation of pressure.

Features:

  • Volume- or pressure-cycled operationA
  • A wide range of tidal volumes and rates
  • Easy to use setup and operating
  • Guinea pig to mouse size
  • Tidal Volume and all parameters are automatically calculated and shown
  • Automatic sigh function that is programmable by the user
  • Using the free SAR-CommVS software application for remote control over USB port
  • Safe with anesthesia and oxygen
  • Multi-animals arrangements (up to 5 rodents)
  • CTP-VA-3 Valve Assembly helps to expand to larger animals

The SAR-1000 Small Animal Ventilator is a multifunctional and simple to use small animal ventilator for mice, rats, and other small animals. While in Volume mode, a fixed tidal volume is delivered with each breath; in Pressure mode, inflation halts at a predetermined airway pressure. Lung inflation is kept up in either mode after inspiration ends until the percent inspiration (%Insp) period has passed. This end inspiratory pause (EIP) enhances gas exchange and the ventilation system's overall effectiveness.

The ventilator works on the tried-and-true flow-time concept, which involves delivering a known airflow for a predetermined period of time in order to supply a specified volume. The LCD display shows the calculated actual tidal volume, Minute Ventilation (MV), and other respiration metrics. Flow multiplied by time equals the Tidal Volume that the animal receives. The percentage of the breathing cycle that is inspiration is controlled by the %INSP dial. For instance, a 50% setting at 60 breaths per minute indicates inspiration lasts for 1/2 second.

The SAR-1000 handles all the calculations on your behalf. As a result, the inspiration time varies automatically when the resp rate (RR) is changed, ensuring that the %INSP always holds true. Basically, changing the FLOW affects the Tidal Volume. You can view the Tidal Volume thanks to automatic calculation and presentation. Here is a brief video that demonstrates basic setup and use (https://youtu.be/XWQbezBC2qQ(link is external).

The operation is entirely self-contained thanks to an integrated air pump. Via a rear-panel connection, this pump pulls in ambient air, oxygen, or anesthetic gasses. There are tubing sets for both mouse- and rat-sized animals.

With the addition of External Valve Assemblies, the SAR-1000 can be upgraded to multi-animal ventilation (see Accessories). Using a ventilator and four CTP-VA-1 valve assemblies, you can accommodate up to five small animals, or you can use one CTP-VA-3 valve assembly to handle one animal weighing up to 5 kg.

Using the ventilator's USB interface and the free SAR-CommVS software program, the ventilator may be fully controlled remotely.
