The Respiratory Belt contains a piezo-electric device that responds linearly to changes in length. It is used to detect changes in the thoracic or abdominal surface during the breathing act.

A device called the Respiratory Belt Transducer is made to track changes in chest diameter brought on by breathing. The belt attaches directly to a Pod (DIN) Port on a PowerLab and generates a linear voltage proportionate to variations in length. Although it can be used on both tiny and large animals, it is primarily intended for use on humans.
