The SyncroPatch 384 is a sophisticated liquid handling robot integrated with an automated patch clamp instrument including 384 recording channels. In addition to larger compound library screening, it can be used for smaller screens and assay development when employing the 32-well mode of operation. By doing so, the instrument can be effectively modified to operate at a lower throughput by utilizing a smaller portion of the chip and pipetting head in multiples of 32 wells. The remaining portion of the chip can be utilized over a few days, further leveraging the NPC-384 chip's low cost. A sophisticated temperature control that can both heat and cool is also included with the SyncroPatch 384. This control can be used to activate cold-activated ion channels or to maintain a consistent temperature. The SyncroPatch 384 can be applied to complicated biophysical investigation of ion channels in academic research, as well as all phases of drug discovery, from hit discovery through lead optimization to safety pharmacology.
