AC differential amplifier for research and teaching purposes. Used to record extracellular activity from excitable tissues.
PERFECT FOR EXCITABLE TISSUE RECORDINGS
Ideal for evoked potentials, long-term potentiation, EEG, EMG, EKG, and multiple-unit recordings.
In a research lab setting or a classroom, the Model 1700 Differential AC Amplifier is ideal for excitable tissue recordings.
The Model 1700 Differential AC Amplifier allows the researcher to concurrently record several signals because it has four separate amplifier channels in a single enclosure. Low-pass, high-pass, and notch filters are placed after a high-gain, low-noise differential stage on each channel. In order to record or stimulate using the same electrode without switching off the cable, a connection is also provided for a stimulator input.
Standard gain settings are x100, x1000, or x10,000; however, they can be changed to suit your unique needs. Like the gain, the 2nd order Butterworth high and low pass filters can have their default values altered to suit your needs.
Suction, nerve cuff, hook, surface, and simple metal electrodes can all be used with the Model 1700 Differential AC Amplifier because it is made to work with low impedance (<1.5 M?„¦) electrodes. For circumstances when you would wish to record from electrodes with greater impedances, such as those utilized for recording brain spike action potentials, optional record-only headstages are available.
The simultaneous recording of spike activity and LFPs or EEG is of interest to many users. To effectively record the brain signal, pre-amplifying headstages are necessary because spike activity is frequently performed with high-impedance electrodes (impedance values more than 1.5 M?„¦).
To carry out such recordings, the Model 1700 can be combined with optional record-only headstages. A-M Systems can adapt any channel (or a number of channels) to function with the headstage for a small modification cost. We currently provide single and dual channel headstages, and we soon will also provide a tiny four channel headstage.
In addition, by sending the post-headstage signal to two distinct Model 1700 channels, each of which has independent gain and filtering, the Model 1700 can be adapted to record both spike and LFP/EEG from the same electrode-headstage combination. It is significant to note that the Model 1700 must be functionally modified in order to use a headstage. The stimulation mode on that channel of the amplifier cannot be used with one of these devices if a headstage is attached to the front end of it, making it impossible for the user to apply current to the site through the electrode. Additionally, because the headstage is a DC device, if the offset between the electrode and the reference is too great, the amplifier will become saturated. This is 1 V in the altered units, which should still give you plenty of room to record the majority of signals.
The gain on the inner channels is reduced by a factor of 10 when a unit is modified for use with a headstage, maintaining the stated overall gain on the switch labels. The upgrade entails providing power to drive the headstage, which necessitates a small circuit adjustment.
