Model 3000 AC/DC Differential Amplifier

Model 3000 is a full-featured amplifier designed for low-noise recordings from excitable tissue with low impedance electrodes.

Key Features

  • Research Quality: For an Education Budget
  • Full Function: AC or DC Signals; Gain, Filtering, Capacity Compensation
  • Low Noise: 1.8 µV p-p; 10 Hz to 10 kHz

Low impedance (<1.5 MΩ) electrodes are used with the Model 3000 AC/DC Differential Amplifier to achieve low-noise recordings from excitable tissue. The Model 3000 is ideal for single cell recordings using high-impedance glass or metal microelectrodes when combined with an optional x10 gain headstage.

Common applications include, but are not limited to:

  • Multiple-Unit Recordings
  • Evoked Potentials
  • EEG/EMG/EKG/ERG recordings
  • Long-term Potentiation
  • Single Cell Action Potentials (with optional headstage)

This one-channel amplifier fits into a small housing for easy placement in the lab and is loaded with capabilities to meet your unique instrumentation needs. An active shielded twisted pair cable serves as the standard input. To connect the cable to your input device, the ends are left exposed.

One alternative is to pre-amp the input signal for high impedance glass or metal microelectrodes using a headstage. Single-ended or differential recordings can be selected as the input mode.

The Model 3000's front panel stimuli input BNC makes it simple to employ external stimulus generators. Any signal existing at the stimulus BNC is channeled straight to the electrodes in stimulus mode, avoiding the internal recording circuitry. The amplifier measures the actual current flowing through the electrode while simultaneously switching to a current monitor mode. An external gate signal can be used to regulate the stimulus and recording modes, enabling computer controlled switching.

The input can be amplified in both DC and AC modes by a factor of 50 to 10,000 while recording. With Fine and Coarse adjustment controls, a high-resolution DC Offset adjustment is accessible up to ±1V. Notch, Low Pass, and High Pass filters provide a broad range of frequency selectivity. Just like with all of A-M Systems amplifiers, you may adjust the gain and filter settings to meet your specific needs. The amplifier can be placed near to the experimental setup or inside a Faraday cage with less power-line interference because to its modest size and remote power source.
