MT-1000/MT-2000/MT-2200 - Motorized and Manual Translation Systems for Fixed-Stage Microscopes

Set of three MT-75 stands (2 for micromanipulators + 1 for bathtub) around X-Y translation platform (MT-500) for microscope. Versatile solution for patch-clamp setup.

The MT-1000/MT-2000/MT-2200 systems are made up of three separate stands and a microscope translator. Each manipulator is supported by two MT-75 platforms, while the MT-150 holds the tissue chamber on a similar stand. The tissue recording chamber and several micromanipulators are mounted securely on freestanding columns in the traditional design. This approach is popular because it allows for the most workspace possible when changing pipettes and adjusting the microscope. Additionally, the independent stand design reduces cross talk between manipulators caused by movement.

The MT-1000 employs a manual translator. The MT-500 X-Y manual translation table serves as the heart of the MT-1000 translator systems. It is made to permit the optics of a microscope to be moved in relation to a fixed stage (s). Electrophysiologists who recorded from tissue slice preparations created this methodology. The translator keeps track of several stable recordings from the preparation while enabling viewing and/or imaging of various tissue regions. Such a device is also helpful for cell culture investigations in which one wants to keep track of multiple cells that are not in the same field of vision, such as recording from pre- and post-synaptic neurons in culture and/or imaging one cell whilst registering from or stimulating another.

The motorized translator is used by the MT-2000/MT-2200 systems. The X-Y translation table, operated by the MT-800 stepper motor, is the heart of the MT-2000/MT-2200 system. The common MP-285 manipulator controller (MT-2000) or the MPC-200 controller for dual manipulator (MT-2200) can both control the motors. The motorized translator receives user input through a two-axis rotary optical encoder (ROE), which can be installed in any practical spot in your setup. Either controller offers the user precise, fluid control over movement. The MP-285 controller has a serial computer interface for PC control and substantial on-board robotic capability. A USB computer interface is also provided by the MPC-200 controller for PC control. Systems that use the MPC-200 controller are referred to as MT-2200, whereas those that use the MP-285 controller are referred to as MT-2000.

Sutter was able to quickly add a focus drive to the MT-2000/MT-2200 thanks to used controller architecture. In order to limit the journey of the microscope objective to a safe range for the system, the Sutter focus drive uses an adjustable end of travel sensor and a direct-coupled stepper motor for lock-step focus movement. The ROE input device contains inputs for X, Y, and Z focus in the focus drive versions, MT-2000/FD and MT-2200/FD.

The Olympus BX-51WI, Nikon FN1, Zeiss Examiner, Zeiss Axioskop 2 FS, and Leica DM6000FS are currently compatible with MT-500 manual translators and MT-800 motorized translators. There are focus drives for the Olympus BX51WI. Alternative microscopes may be also supported.
